Your AI Sounds Like Everyone Else Because You Gave It Nothing to Work With

March 16, 20265 min read

We need to have a direct conversation about why your AI content sounds like everyone else's AI content.

It's not the platform.

It's not the prompt.

It's not some mysterious AI limitation.

It's simpler than that.

You gave it nothing to work with.

And it gave you nothing in return.

What Generic Input Looks Like

Here's what most business owners type into AI:

"Write me a social media post about why small business owners need systems."

And they get back something like:

"As a small business owner, you know how challenging it can be to manage all the moving parts of your business. That's why having the right systems in place is critical to your success..."

Sound familiar?

It should.

Because that same answer is being generated for every coach, consultant, and business owner who typed a similar question today.

Same output.

Different names on it.

That's not your content.

That's the internet's content with your face on it.

What Your IP Actually Is

Before we talk about how to feed AI your intellectual property, let's get clear on what your IP actually is.

It's not just your course materials or your frameworks.

Your IP is everything that makes your business perspective uniquely yours:

It's the specific way you describe your client's problem.

It's the language your audience uses when they talk about their struggle.

It's the analogy you always reach for when explaining a concept.

It's the stories from your own business journey that illustrate your points.

It's the things you believe about your industry that most people get wrong.

It's your methodology—the specific sequence of steps you take clients through.

It's your opinion.

Your perspective.

Your voice.

None of that exists in AI until you put it there.

The 10-Year-Old to 40-Year-Old Journey

Think of training your AI like developing an employee.

When you hire someone brand new, they're essentially a 10-year-old on their first day.

Eager. Capable. But completely without context.

They don't know how you think.

They don't know how you communicate.

They don't know what you stand for or what you absolutely won't stand for.

They're doing their best with nothing to go on.

Over time—as you correct them, teach them, share context with them—they grow.

The 10-year-old becomes a 20-year-old.

Then a 30-year-old.

Then a 40-year-old who anticipates what you need before you ask.

That progression doesn't happen by accident.

It happens because you invested in their development.

AI training works exactly the same way.

Every piece of IP you feed it moves it forward on that development path.

Every correction you make teaches it something.

Every approval reinforces what's working.

But you have to do the training.

Because a 10-year-old with nothing to learn from stays a 10-year-old forever.

What Happens When You Feed It Your IP

Here's the same social media post request after you've trained your AI on your actual IP:

You've told it your audience is overwhelmed, heart-centered small business owners aged 35–65 who are action-oriented but tech-phobic.

You've told it your voice is fun, firm, with strategic sarcasm.

You've told it your perspective is that most business owners are working harder because they're working without systems—not because they're lazy or uncommitted.

You've told it your language rules—no "unlock," "unleash," or "delve."

You've told it your analogy: running a business without systems is like building a house without a blueprint.

Now you ask the same question.

The output is completely different.

It sounds like you.

It uses your perspective.

It speaks directly to your specific audience's specific struggle.

It uses your language rules.

It's not the internet's content anymore.

It's yours.

The IP Inventory

Before you can train AI on your IP, you need to know what your IP is.

Here's a simple inventory exercise:

Your Perspective:

What do you believe about your industry that most people get wrong?

What's the advice you hear all the time that you think is terrible?

What's the thing you've figured out that took you years to learn?

Your Audience:

Who specifically are you talking to?

What do they say about their problem when they describe it in their own words?

What have they already tried that didn't work?

What do they actually want (not what they say they want)?

Your Methodology:

What's your specific process?

What are the steps you take every client through?

What do you call your frameworks?

What's the sequence that gets results?

Your Voice:

How do you sound in conversation?

What words do you use that are signature to you?

What do you never say?

What's your humor style?

What's your level of directness?

Your Stories:

What experiences from your own business journey do you reference repeatedly?

What client stories illustrate your points?

What failures taught you your most important lessons?

That inventory is your AI training material.

The Monthly Content Rant

Here's a practical way to use this once your AI is trained:

Every month, get in your car.

Open Claude's voice feature on your phone.

Rant for five minutes about what you want to cover that month.

Your real thoughts.

Your real opinions.

Your real language.

Your real stories.

Feed that transcript to your trained AI.

Ask it to turn your rant into four email newsletters, 20 social media posts, and five blog outlines.

It already knows your voice.

It already knows your audience.

It already knows your rules.

Now it has your actual IP to work with.

The output is genuinely yours.

Because the input was genuinely you.

The Real Question

Is your AI trained on what makes you different?

Or is it still generating content that could belong to any coach, consultant, or business owner in your industry?

Because one of those builds your brand.

The other builds the internet's bland middle.

And your audience deserves better than the internet's bland middle.

Action Steps:

  • Complete the IP inventory above. Write it all down.

  • Identify three things that are uniquely yours (your perspective, your methodology, your voice).

  • Feed that IP to your AI project.

  • Ask it to generate something and compare the output to what you were getting before.

  • Notice the difference. Then keep adding more.
